Construction of the Meilahti–Laakso tunnel begins – a resident event will be held on 27 November from 18:00–19:00
Tunnel excavation work will be completed in 2025 and most of the construction work in 2027.
The Laakso and Meilahti Hospital areas will be connected by a tunnel. The construction of this tunnel will begin in December in the Laakso Hospital area. This approximately 800-metre long tunnel will be used to both transport goods and enable patients and staff to move between the hospital areas.
The construction work consists of underground excavation and will not be visible above ground. The greatest inconvenience to residents and the surrounding area will most likely be caused by blasting vibrations. Rock and soil will be transported away from the site via the Laakso Hospital area.
Tunnel excavation work will be completed in 2025 and most of the construction work in 2027.
We will hold an open information and discussion session for neighbourhood residents and all other interested city residents on Monday, 27 November 2023 from 18:00–19:00. In addition to discussing the construction of the Meilahti–Laakso tunnel, we will also provide information about other Laakso Joint Hospital construction sites. We will set aside plenty of time for discussion and questions.
The event will be held at the Laakso Joint Hospital project office (Piha big room) at Lääkärinkatu 8. See the map for information on how to get there (in Finnish).
You can also participate in the event remotely. Closer to the date, we will provide instructions on this page.
The presentations will be held in Finnish, but you can ask questions in Swedish and English.
You are warmly welcome!
