Blasting to begin in the Laakso Hospital area on February 8
The Laakso Joint Hospital alliance is continuing its preparatory work in the Laakso area. The next phase of work will begin in February with open-face blasting in the Laakso Hospital area at the site of the demolished health center. Blasting work will begin on February 8.
We will do our best to minimize the inconvenience. We will take measurements to monitor noise and vibrations. The real estate properties in the vicinity were surveyed before the blasting.
Blasting will be scheduled at three times on weekdays: 9 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. Not all of the blasting slots will be used, and no blasting will take place at other times. An intermittent warning will sound before blasting.
Loading the blasted rocks onto trucks will cause noise. In addition, the sound of drilling will affect the vicinity, as holes need to be drilled into the rock before explosive charges can be set in them. Drilling began in February.
Excavation will cause noise, particularly in the initial stages of the work. The pit will deepen as work progresses, and the walls will form a noise barrier for the immediate surroundings. Noise-dampening mats will be used during blasting.
Noisy work will take place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. We will also be working outside these hours, and all construction and other work can cause some noise.
In the initial phase of work, blasted rock will be transported away along Lääkärinkatu. The new site road will be completed in about two months, and site traffic will begin using it.
The infrastructure construction contractors are preparing to build vehicle tunnels on Laaksonkenttä. Supporting walls for trenches were built in the initial phase. This phase has proceeded as scheduled. Open-pit mining will also begin on Laaksonkenttä in February.
Construction of the site road to begin
Blasting work will begin, and other work will continue on Laaksonkenttä. The construction of a new site road from the Laakso Hospital area to Laaksonkenttä will begin in February.
The site road will run via a ramp from the Laakso Hospital area to Laaksonkenttä and onwards to Nordenskiöldinkatu from the junction at the Aurora hospital area.
It is necessary to fell 13 trees from the site of the rehabilitation center of the Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities to make way for the site road. However, new trees will be planted in the hospital area when the construction project is nearing completion. A hole will also be made in the wall of the Laakso Hospital area. When construction is complete, the site road will be demolished, and the area will be restored.
Pipelines will first be built under the site road to allow for the installation of new pipes in the hospital area. Some channel excavation will be required to create the pipe channels. The road will take about two months to build.
The new site road will improve safety and reduce traffic and potential congestion in Töölö, as trucks will no longer need to drive along narrow residential streets. The site road will be used by vehicles such as trucks carrying blasting rock.
When the construction work is completed, the site road will be demolished, and the area will be restored through landscaping. The riding arena will return to Laaksonkenttä. Construction work will be fully completed in 2030.
